Artist Biography

Roulan Mu is a figurative sculptor based in South Australia. Her sculptures are grounded in lived experiences silenced by oppression and unexamined social assumptions. Applying anatomical rigour, she creates psychologically charged figures that compel viewers to suspend their perceptions and encounter the body as a site of tension, compression and emotional concealment.

After leaving her successful career as a lawyer and accountant, Mu transitioned to professional studio practice, applying a lifelong discipline for analytical research to the complex architecture of the human form.

Mu has studied under several of the world’s leading figurative artists. Her training includes certification from the Centre for the Study of Figurative Ceramics (USA) under mentors such as Cristina Córdova and Beth Cavener, as well as intensive anatomical study with Philippe Faraut.
