An Eyebrow-raising Pottery Piece That Will Make you Smile
I named this piece Ah-Bug because it reminds me of my uncles squatting by the rice paddies in their colourful bandanas, having a smoke. Ah-Bug means uncles in my Hakka language. Just to be clear all my uncles wore paints 🙂
Ah-Bug is inspired by a South American ancient human effigy pottery vessel. In many regions of South America, ancient human effigy pottery vessels were made showing the genitals to signify the gender of the human effigy.
The vessel would have been used for carrying water and food.

Ah-Bug is made of water-based white raku clay with coarse grog. The coloured slips are made of black clay and terracotta clay. The specifications are similar to my other piece, I Love My Schnapps .
